I've been reading the book "Radical" by David Platt and now am in the midst of reading Francis Chan's "Crazy Love". I must admit that both of these men's publications are very, good, and the church is in great need of what these two have penned.
I do not believe there has ever been a time in church history that the writings of both of these, would have been relevent and up to date. Many of the main stream denominational churches have lacked an understanding of the Omnipotence of God, the Atonement of Christ and what I feel most important, the indwelling of the Holy Spirt.
Many have died, after attending church all their lives and never knew just how big, how awesome and intricate their heavenly Father is (was). They perhaps, knew a little more about Jesus, but quiet possibly many of them never really beieved His words on how to become a follower (disciple). And assuredly, many church members have gone to the grave, NEVER utilizing the gift of the Holy Spirit, that the Father sent to us as the Comforter, Counseler and Companion.
Many who have died, as well as many who sit in our churches weekly haven't caught on to the person of the Spirit. Some seem frieghtened Of Him. Others look at you like a young calf looking at a new gate, at anyone who mentions being indwelled or filled with the Holy Ghost.
Yet these two men, David and Francis have expounded on these subjects in a God directed way in each of their writings, and I admire them and am so appreciative that they are on the top sellers list and selling millions of copies. Praise the Lord.
But I have to say this also, Darrin, myself and a few other young Baptist preachers/pastors were teaching and preaching the very same thing week after week to what seemed to unhearing ears. Maybe because we didn't have hundreds in our small churches, or the fact we just wasn't being connected to, I don't know, but we did it. Did we see the results as these have, I didn't.
A few got it, but most just said I was expecting to much out of them. I probably wasn't loving enough when I spoke, I know that, but as I refered to myself else where, I was just ignorance on fire. Other preachers said that I was wasting my time, Deacons called me on the carpet because I taught them the truth. I was reprimanded by mentors, and older pastors. They say I tore up the church, but I wasn't trying to, rather I was trying to stir them up.
Anyway, I appreciate these two fine young Chritian men, but I have to say, and not out of jealousy, but out of standing up for some fine young preachers that attended school together back in the mid eighties, that what they have written WAS preached by many of us.
God Bless all of God's people who are truly sold out to His ways, and help others to see how much more they could have if they would only hear.
